Twelve Days in May

by
Jerald W. Berry

The pages of this book present the factual story of the 4th Infantry Division Cambodian Incursion in May 1970—not only the role of the 3-506th, but the story behind each of the five other 4th Infantry battalions and their support units--aviation, artillery, medical, engineers, and logistics--who participated in the campaign. The men who fought the battles and faced the enemy gallantly deserve more than being recorded as only numbers and statistics on faded archives pages, or having their names etched for eternity on the Vietnam Wall.  Behind these statistics are countless untold stories that bring out the devastation of war in vivid detail and told by those who were there.  The 3-506th story (OPCON to the 4th ID at the time), which spearheaded the "Ivy Division" combat assault into Cambodian and fought one of the most intense battles of the operation is but one of these stories.  Read what really happened in Binh Tay I

xThe Protected Will Never Know

By Don Meyer

Don Meyer served in Delta Company, 3-506th in 1969/70.  He writes.  "Surviving Vietnam was more than dodging a bullet; it was about surviving your Tour of Duty with your mind and body still intact."

Book Description

Entering the Army in June of 1969 and “In Country” by November, there began the journey. Vietnam was more than just a war. Vietnam was also the oppressive heat of the jungle, the bugs and mosquitoes, the snakes, the swamps and rice paddies, the monsoon rains and the constant grind of “Humping the Boonies.” But surviving Vietnam was more than dodging a bullet, it was about surviving your Tour of Duty with your mind and body still intact.

Kill Me If You Can, You SOB

By  CW2 Bobby W. Miller

New Edition To Our Book Shelf

Kill Me If You Can, You SOB - is a non-fiction book about the 192nd Assault Helicopter Company at LZ Betty in Phan Thiet, Vietnam that supported the 3d Battalion, 506th Infantry of the 101st Airborne Division. It's a book written by an ordinary soldier about extraordinary soldiers like Lt. Colonel Manuel A. Alves (Black Hawk) and his band of Currahees with the 3-506th (Airborne) Infantry. And men like Chief Warrant Officer Richard Maxwell Arann and Warrant Officer Theodore Vail Thoman with the 192nd Assault Helicopter Company (1968-69).

Kill Me If You Can, You SOB is a judicious and penetrating diary of one of America's greatest tragedies--the Vietnam War--and the soldiers who lived and died making it so. While it's illuminating, it's by no means a rah-rah account of the war. This work is a tour de force whose humor and candor is audacious. Simply dealing with the verity of it all makes this possibly one of the best non-fiction works to emerge out of the heartbreak known as the Vietnam War.

Warrant Officer Miller served with the 192nd AHC (68-69) he was shot down twice and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.  You can purchase this book here in the Gift Shop/PX while supplies last, or get it and other books by Bob Miller at fine bookstores such as:  Target, Barns & Noble, Amazon.com, etc.    Clink HERE to visit Bob's Website and to order a copy of his book.   Price is $9.95

 COMBAT SURGEON IN VIETNAM
by
Andrew Lovy, D.O.

BOOK REVIEW - CLICK HERE

Combat Surgeon by Dr. Andrew Lovy is a rare gem of first-person, primary-source history of our nation’s most controversial war. This book is significant in the history of American Medicine. In all prior conflicts, osteopathic physicians (DO’s) were not eligible to be commissioned as officers in the medical corps as were allopathic physicians (MD’s). Dr. Lovy represents the first D.O. to receive a commission as a medical officer in the Army. Since then, many osteopathic physicians have enjoyed distinguished careers in the Armed Forces and the U.S. Public Health Service.

The reminiscences of Dr. Lovy after 30 years of reflection are illuminating especially after attending a number of important reunions. d corroborates the qualities of the Dr. Lovy I have long known.

Combat Surgeon is a special gift to many, but to those involved in the war itself whether they were in support or opposed to it.

The personal diary of Andrew Lovy, D. O., Battalion Surgeon with the 3-506th (October 1967 - July 1968).   In the 375-page (5 3/4" by 8 1/4") book, Dr. Lovy relates in the first person his day-by-day experiences  in the Vietnam War.

The Story of a Soldier

The Airborne Spirit and Recollections of Colonel Edward S. Mehosky (RET.) U.S. Army, Infantry.  [1/Co. H, 3/506th PIR]

"This is a book you will want to read!  How can one adequately express his feelings about our first leader, Edward Mehosky, and the role he played in turning me and the men in our platoon, from clueless recruits into combat survivors? He was as much an architect of attitude as he was a teacher of tactics and if the 1st Platoon "H" Company, 506th became an effective fighting unit from Normandy onward, it is to his credit that he made us so..."

 FIRST MOLE
by
John Barber

Author John Barber is non other than our very own 1Lt. John Barber.  John served with the Currahees of the 101st Airborne Division as a Forward Observer (FO) from Delta Battery, 2nd Bn, 320th FA and spent most of his time with Charlie Company, 3-506th in 1967/68 before being wounded in a combat incident. He lives in his lakefront home in Michigan where he is working on “Second Mole,” book 2 of the Mole trilogy.  The book's intro. reads:

"
This book is the first installment of the Mole Trilogy. Readers are taken to the most dangerous zones of Vietnam as they follow one man’s exploits in First Mole. Captain John Baker aka The Mole has put himself in danger. After deploying himself to operate alone as a forward observer, he has been the target of all the local Vietcong units. The attention to detail of all his movements is very critical to his continued existence. A young man in his twenties, Baker has with him a good record of commendable achievements while in the military. He has exterminated a good number of Vietcong units with his artillery and kept almost all of his allied units from running into ambushes during the last six months. He got his nickname not by the many impressive feats he has but by his habit of digging a six-foot-long foxhole shelter to sleep in every night, and of course, his cunning and alertness even in the dark. Now, all by himself in his chosen special mission, Capt. Baker believes what he is risking his life for will atone his shame and guilt from a “friendly fire” incident that resulted in the deaths of two of his soldiers. Amid threats, traps, and espionage, he takes on the challenge only to discover that what appears to be a highly complicated task is just in fact the beginning of a more tumultuous ride. Propelled with humor, action, and romance, First Mole will leave readers entertained from the first to the very last page. For more information on this book, interested parties can log on to www.Xlibris.com."
