The Medals & Ribbons Section

Many of us Currahees or our families are unsure of which military medals were awarded  us during our service and or especially during the Vietnam War.  With renewed interest in wearing and displaying our decorations, medals, ribbons, badges and insignia to honor patriotic service for family pride and for passing down to our children and grand children, the Currahee PX has added these military service items for former members to replace lost items, or obtain a second set of his awards and decorations for display or gifts to family members.   As time permit, more items associated with one's military service will be added.  If you see an item not list, please contact Jerry Berry at jerryberry@currahee.org to have it added.  Display cases in various sizes will be available soon.  If you have any questions concerning your decorations and service metals, ribbons, badges and insignia, contact Jerry Berry.

Vietnam Basic Medals

There are two general categories of "medals" awarded by the United States to its military personnel, namely, decorations and service metals.  Decorations, are awarded for acts of gallantry and meritorious service and usually have distinctive and often unique shapes such as crosses or stars.  Campaign or service medals are issued to individuals who participate in particular campaigns or periods of service for which a medal is authorized. Four basic Vietnam medals are authorized for Currahees who served in Vietnam.  Click on the image to the left to enlarge.  These are: National Defense Service Medal, U.S. Vietnam Service Medal, RVN Campaign Medal, and the RVN Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
