attention for the book.
The
human element in military archival documents is reduced
to mere statistics, with no mention of the personal side
of war—the suffering, the sacrifice, the scars, as well
as the heroism of those men who made this history for
our country. From these decades-old Vietnam Era
documents emerged names and faces, adding flesh and
emotion to the "bare bones" of Vietnam War military
history. The pages of this book present the factual
story of the 4th Infantry Division Cambodian
Incursion—not only the role of the 3-506th,
but the story behind each of the five other 4th
Infantry battalions and their support units--aviation,
artillery, medical, engineers, and logistics--who
participated in the campaign. The men who fought the
battles and faced the enemy gallantly deserve more than
being recorded as only numbers and statistics on faded
pages, or having their names etched for eternity on the
Vietnam Wall. Behind these statistics are countless
untold stories that bring out the devastation of war in
vivid detail and told by those who were there. The
3-506th story (OPCON to the 4th ID at the
time), spearheaded the "Ivy Division" combat
assault into Cambodian and fought one of the most
intense battles of the operation is but one of these
stories. Read what really happened in Binh Tay I.
“For we enter this place—Cambodia—knowing the ravages of
war, yet return never free of them."
