About Us

This
Gift Shop/PX is part of home base for the 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 506th
Infantry (Currahees), 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division...aka... "The
Stand Alone Battalion" & Task Force 3-506th". Our mission:
-
SEARCH
& FIND - To find and bring together as many of our former battalion
members as possible, while time is still on our side.
We started with eight members and combined search efforts since then
have put us in contact with over 1,000 of our former Currahees.
-
COMMO
- To create a vehicle(s)—website, communication network (e-mails, bulletin
board, snail mail, newsletter, gift shop, etc.)—to keep in contact with
members and keep group enthusiasm high.
I feel that we have a respectful website, a fairly active message
board, a huge E-mail circuit, and an informative monthly newsletter.
-
ANNUAL
RENDEZVOUS - To rendezvous by coming together at annual reunions—an
opportunity to renew “the bond”, to exchange life stories, to meet
spouses and children of our members, and to welcome some of the family
members of our fallen Currahees.
Again, I feel that we have been very successful and continue to grow
in these areas.
We began with eight members in 1997 and had over 250 members, spouses
and guests in attendance at our 2006 reunion.
-
RECORD
AND CORRECT OUR UNIT HISTORY - To document our unit and Task Force 3-506th
units history through general research, publishing books, personal
recollections and photos from former members, KIA family members, etc.
-
ONE
FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE - To ensure that every member has a say in the
direction of our informal organization's future; and assist former members
when and where needed.
All of us are members of this organization simply by virtue of the fact
that we served together as a unit in Vietnam.
This fact “stands alone” as the adequate entitlement of each member
to a vote as to the future direction of our group.
Also, no vote should go unheard simply because a member is not physically
present at an annual rendezvous (reunion).
As always, my goals as webmaster, unit historian, e-mail contact center
and desires remain with the majority of our members; and our path will remain
the same—steadfast and dedicated to the goals that have brought us thus far on
our journey.
